Kitimat Parents for French (KPF) is our local chapter of Canadian Parents for French.

KPF provides support, information and resources for parents with children studying French, whether through an immersion, intensive or basic French program. We work with school boards, teachers, parent advisory councils and the federal and provincial governments to suggest and monitor policies and programs that affect the access to and quality of our children’s French educational programs. But that’s not all!

KPF helps raise awareness about the benefits of second-language learning for all children. There are numerous events throughout the year supported locally by KPF.  KPF fundraises to support these activities and to provide materials.

KPF is part of a network of provincial and territorial branches that stretch from coast to coast to coast, with the national office being located in Ottawa. While the BC/ Yukon branch office is in the Lower Mainland, there are more than 45 chapters in communities across the region, organizing activities, supporting parents in their efforts to help their children with French, and advocating for strong French-second language programs in their community.

KPF believes in a bilingual Canada where young Canadians have the opportunity to learn both of Canada’s official languages, English and French. We believe every child has the right to become a bilingual citizen through French second language programs such as the French Immersion program and the FSL/Core French program.
